In the early part of the 20th Century, up to about 1915 the Licensee was Joseph Burns, a former miner from Pemberton. He ran it with his wife Clara. He went back to mining for a time at the Glenburn Colliery then took over the license of the Fox & Goose Inn on Wigan Road. They were there until 1956.
